Game Jam

This game was made during the Grazminster Game Jam, which allowed me to collaborate with both students from my University and students from the University of TU Graz in Austria.

The theme for the Game Jam was 'when the lights go out,' which made us work around darkness and how that can affect the player in a 3D First Person world. The story behind After Hours is about a kid who has been left in a toy store by his parents, and his main goal is to go around the store and turn on all the lights to complete the game.

The inspirations that I took for the toy store were images of real toy stores to achieve a realistic look, but I also added areas such as the playhouse area, which is where the player starts, and the ball pit area to add a bit more depth to the level.

The come up with the final level design I first made a blockout version of the level by using ProBuilder where I added all the walls, floor, ceiling and elements such as the shelves, ball pit, light system and paying desk using squares and after I was happy with the size of each room and corridors I started adding all the final assets and started playing with the environment lighting to achieve the final dark and eerie.
